The Greystones Stylist Giving Siobhán That Look

Hungry like the wolfhounds…

t’s not enough that Greystones lad Nick O’Loughlin proved to be one of the most popular contestants on The Traitors, turns out there was another local who was crucial to the hit RTE series too.

Stylist to the stars – and a few wannabes, of course – Anne O’Shea made sure that the show’s host, the perfectly cast Siobhán McSweeney, looked as gothic and gorgeous as possible throughout the eight episodes.

So much so that the original call to create 13 looks for the Derry Girls star had jumped to 26 by the end of the massive production at Slane Castle.

And it all began with O’Shea visiting McSweeney’s London flat.

“Everything is building blocks,” she told RTE’s Lifestyle. “You can’t really start from scratch with anything; going to her wardrobe was the first building block for this project.

“Just to be able to get into her mind and into her house, and to figure it out was, I think, the best way to do it.”

So, into the mix for McSweeney’s look was thrown Enya, Countess Markievicz, Katharine Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich and Carole Lombard, as well as a heavy dose of the so-so Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn horror comedy Death Becomes Her.

And given that the leading lady believes in only working with brands that are available to every woman, and to every shape and size, O’Shea concentrated the looks on Irish designers, such as Paula Rowan, Orla Langan, Oran Aurelio, Delphi Antiques, Éadach by Sarah O’Neill and The Zero Waster.

As to the stylist having a favourite from the show, it’s the opening outfit with the blazer, the navy turtleneck and the Orla Langan skirt.

“There’s just something about it that is so powerful, and fits Siobhán so well…”
