It’s a skirt that has seen an incredible amount of action – and now its found a home at Theatre Lane…
From its debut around Chris Quinn’s fine ass at Wimbledon on Friday, July 14th to its flight across the Atlantic to be touched once more by the hand of tennis pro Kim Clijsters, this little strip of slight-stretched white cloth has been around the world.
And do you want to know why…?
Well, firstly because Greystones tennis nut Chris Quinn is one fun-loving fecker – what a Wimbledon debut – and secondly, because Belgian tennis legend Kim Clijsters is possibly an even finer fun-loving fecker.
When professional heckler Chris – captain of the Greystones Lawn Tennis Club – was invited down on the hallowed ground of a Wimbledon court, and managed to return Kim’s serve, it was a twak that was heard around the world. By over 25 million people, on the last YouTube count.
Being the kind of guy that he is, Chris donated the little white skirt he somehow managed to squeeze into on that court to The Gavin Glynn Foundation, and yesterday, D-day for the worldwide auction saw Theatre Lane the victors, with their €3,000 bid.
Because Ross McParland and the Theatre Lane gang are not only fun-loving feckers, but also big, kind-hearted lugs when it comes to Greystones. As anyone who’s headed down to one of their outdoor cinema screenings on The Cove will know.
“It’s a thrill for us to have the winning bid on this very famous skirt,” said Theatre Lane’s Nikki Barrie. “The feeling that such a fun part of our town’s history will be part of the new theatre means a lot to us, and it’s made all the sweeter by knowing that the money is going to The Gavin Glynn Foundation. How could we resist such a win-win situation…?”
That little white Wimbledon Wonder will make its debut public appearance in the town at the new Bear Paw Delicatessen on Theatre Lane when it opens on Tuesday, August 8th – just head over to the box-office for Greystones’ groovy new theatre, tucked away inside. Tickets will go on sale in late August for September, October and November events – more of which, later, baby!
GG has seen the programme for Greystones groovy new theatre coming together, and, hey, let’s just say this town is all set for a whale of a time…
Congrats to Chris Quinn, John Glynn, Ross McParland and everyone else involved in this feelgood ending. If we can tempt Kim Clijsters over to Greystones for a rematch next year, it’s good to know that our boy will have his little white number ready to roll once again…
You can catch our interview with Chris as we talk about his globe-trotting week of living famously right here.
