Theresa’s Officially A Great Sport

It’s a club that wouldn’t be the same without her, and so Greystones Athletic Club were delighted when one of their founders, Theresa Kinane, was honoured with a Volunteers In Sport Award.

The Minister for Tourism & Sport, Brendan Griffin, presented Theresa with her great big medal, whilst the EBS threw in a donation of €250 for the Greystones club.

Nice.

It was back in January 1997 that Theresa and a band of helpers established the Greystones And District AC, and the bould Ms Kinane has been Hon Secretary and Competitions Secretary of the club ever since. And that’s not to mention Theresa’s coaching roles.

Clearly, this is a woman who has gone well above and beyond for athletics in the area, at every level, and her award this month was welcomed by many.

Catering for athletics of all ages, the Greystones club has members from beginners to internationals, and their training groups include little athletics, Fit4Life, road running and specialist coaching groups for endurance, sprints, hurdles, throws and jumps. The club also currently competes in a number of competitions from county to international level.

The Volunteers In Sport Awards were created to recognise the work and passion of the 450,000 men and women who dedicate their time and expertise freely to Irish sport each year. That amounts to 37.7 million hours of volunteering across Ireland’s 14,000 registered sports clubs and associations. Just in case you were wondering.
