t’s the day before Ash Wednesday, and the last chance to stuff your fat face before Lent…

At least, that’s how it used to be.

Before we all became godless, feckless, fun-loving hedonists hellbent on making up for 900 years of Catholic guilt and sexual oppression.

And sure, what better way than to fling off those shackles than tossing a pancake? And then getting well and truly battered.

If there’s one thing nicer than popping into that kitchen and whipping up some yummy pancakes it’s having someone else pop into their kitchen and whipping you up some freebies! 

Gino’s are getting the Greystones party started, giving away free sugar & lemon and free Nutella crêpes from 9am to 12pm today! They go pretty well with award-winning gelato, from what we hear. If neither of those freebies rock your world, there are also firm favourites such as Gino’s chocolate Oreo crêpe (crushed Oreos, white chocolate sauce, fresh cream and Gino’s melted Oreo variegato), Gino’s Special (Nutella, sliced banana and chopped strawberries) or the Traditional (lemon, butter and sugar). BOOM!

At Café Gourmet, Vick and Ira have gone all-out, with a variety of pancakes for the day, plus a free hot chocolate with every one of their gourmet pancake.

Unsurprisingly, La Crêperie Pierre Grise are going all out for Pancake Day by donating the day’s takings to aid for the earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria. So, you can enjoy their homemade salted caramel butter and their hot fudge sauce, with all the traditional toppings – along with their savoury crêpes – and do some good too…

Over at The Source in Meridian Point, they have pumpkin spice pancake mixes ready to rock agus roll, giving you a little of what you fancy in under 15 minutes. Over at Kitchen 28 in Kilcoole, they have classic American-style pancakes, including their Maple Bacon Stack and the Nutella Stack, plus the perennial favourite Berries & Cream, all at €8 each. And only for as long as stocks last.

At Relish, you can grab yourself 3 Ricotta & Strawberry or Chocolate & Hazelnut pancakes for just €5.95. Which might just hit the spot. Given that, when it comes to treats, 3 is always the magic number. 

For those a little late to the party, Gavin Murphy from Rise At The Cove will be at the Greystones Youth Café this Friday from 7pm to 9pm to make some the American way, complete with all de toppings and de sauces. Details right here.

Lots of lazy, uninspired fecks around Greystones today who ain’t changing their menus for no one, it seems. Not even God’s favourite son.
