Sir Bob 10APR18
he first thing you notice when you swing into Robert
Mooney Furniture’s Kilcoole HQ is the ridiculous amount of magazine cover stories on the guy.
Bob’s busy out back, talking to a customer, so, naturally, GG went rooting.
From Ideal Home to House & Home, from The Sunday Times to Bare Bum Monthly, there’s a seemingly endless stream of journalists falling head over ottoman for young Mr Mooney’s designs.
Heck, even the telly has fallen under the lad’s spell, RTE’s Design Doctors having also come knocking on their door.
And just to remind us where it all began, there’s the weighing scales that served Mrs Bridie Mooney for sixty years, as she served us.
It was during his school years that Robert Mooney Jnr started out on this path, encouraged by one of his St David’s teachers, Jackie
Clancy, to follow his burgeoning passion for furniture design, and just create.
“Even in school,” says Bob today, “it was always an immense pleasure to make something out of nothing. To this day, I still get that job satisfaction, to be quite honest…”
After an initial start concentrating on garden furniture and calling himself Paddy O’Furniture, today, Bob leads a team of five, and their work can be seen all over the country, as the good word spreads, and people happily make that journey to his sprawling workshop and showroom in Druids Court, just beside those major pane merchants, Archers Windows.
You can find out more on their rather snazzy official website here, if you need directions to this little creative design haven, you can check ’em on Google Maps here, and you can also check out their latest brochure here. You can contact the gang directly by phoning 012871397 or 0862546174, or emailing here.
In de meantime, we caught up with Bob this afternoon, to find out when exactly he found out that he was good with his hands. Especially when, you know, he got wood.
Now, check these babies out…
