hey say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but the hardy souls who know it’s all about the spirit you have as opposed to the spirits you consume are made of stronger stuff.

Organised by Mary Fitzpatrick of Killincarrig, there was a mass to mark the occasion, celebrated by former parish priest Fr Enda Lloyd and current head honcho, Fr John Daly.

And unlike most large gatherings in Greystones where the blood of Christ is available at the counter, there was no fight in the car park afterwards.

Not that we’ve heard about, anyway.

The suspiciously merry president of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, Matt Boylan, was also in attendance. Reminding everyone that it’s a choice between losing your memory or losing memories.

He was mainly there though to check for any doubts in those shining eyes.
