Into the grooves…

Into the grooves…
escribed by his old Waterboys bandmate Mike Scott as “the
world’s greatest rock fiddle player”, and by the NME as a ‘fiddling legend’, Steve Wickham has played on many of Ireland’s finest 3-minute blasts of joy.
O’Rourke’s Gallileo, Sinead O’Connor’s I’m Stretched On Your Grave and, of course, The Waterboys’ Fisherman’s Blues makes this unassuming fiddling fellow an important part of our musical jigsaw.
Oh, and two far-less-exotic creatures from a little closer to home, guitarist and fiddle-player Ray Coen and bassist Eddie Lee.
In the meantime, we asked young Wickham to reveal the songs that can make him break down and cry…

Absolutely wonderful group of musicians Heard them last year in the D.C. club in Dublin without Steve Wickham ,and they blew me away with their playing and singing , I first heard Steve play in Ballyfermot with his cousin Hughie Purcell who is from Ballyer ,We all knew we were listening to something special then , I done the the booking for two years in the club ,it was hard to be fair to musicians sometimes, so much talent about , I could have put these two on every other week and no one would have complained at the frequency of their appearance ,think we gave them a tenner each ,if that, Happy days ….Go see No Crows you won’t be disappointed with Steve or without They are a gift
Thanks Denis for your comments. The Phoenix Folk Club in Ballyfermot will present a selection of special gigs in 2016.
