We’re Offically Getting Denser

Keep on the sunny side…

t will come as little surprise to anyone who’s driven a car around here in recent years to learn that Greystones is going through something of a population boom.

With the latest Central Statistic Office figures out this morning, the town has grown at double the rate of Ireland itself since 2016.

Whereas the country’s population had an increase of 8% – to 5.1m – Greystones’ numbers leapt by 16.2%, to 27,854.

Which just goes to prove that all those housing estates aren’t just a trick of the right.

This compares to County Wicklow as a whole growing by 9.2%, and it reflects the simple fact that the town is buckling without a serious upgrade to its infrastructure.

It doesn’t help, of course, when Wicklow County Council treats Greystones like the red-haired stepson when it comes to handing out the budgets for each district.

We’re still the lowest per head in the entire county, despite the fact that we generate the most money.

The envious little fecks.

So, if the numbers keep rising like this, sure, let’s rise up and return to the glory days of the Clan O’Byrne once again…
