t’s not every day we get snail mail here at GG Mansions…

But then, when the GG reader in question doesn’t want any blowback, it might be the only line of communication that leaves no trace.

Not that the missive popping through our letterbox was all that incendiary. Just a concerned citizen, genuinely worried about the safety of our children.

The writer in question is a courier, and on his daily deliveries around the town, he’s had to brake and swerve a few times to avoid kids playing on the road.

Playing outside the house where we live is something that most of us have done growing up, of course, and it made those of us who survived the stronger for it, but our anonymous delivery driver feels that when there’s a green right beside that road, it might be a good idea for parents to direct their kids to such safer grounds for their fun and games.

‘Not every housing estate has a green,’ says the letter, ‘but there are plenty that do. It’s a very, very busy time for delivery drivers right now, and in the case of somewhere like Heathervue, I’ve noticed that kids are always out on the road rather than on the green.

‘The fact that there was a very near-accident there prompted me to write to the Guide. That incident really shook me.

‘So, parents, where possible, please encourage your kids to stay off the roads and play on the greens – where they are so, so much safer…’

Naturally, this only goes out to parents who actually like their kids.

As opposed to those who like to push them out the door at sun-up and reluctantly, resentfully holler their names across the town when supper’s up.
