aving launched in June with the help of a certain stadium-filling Newcastle rock star, the fundraising drive to build Will’s Playground is nearing completion.

Being built in memory of Will Leeson – whose parents acted as Hozier’s bodyguards on that special day – the target budget is now tantalisingly close to being reached.

Say Andrew and Julie Leeson, “As 2023 comes to a close, we are delighted to announce that an amazing €50,000 has been raised, which means that we are only €15,000 off our fundraising target of €65,000.

“We have had a busy year with so many amazing fundraising events including Will’s Colour Run, a dog show and more, all of which have been greatly supported by the local community.”

With their target goal clearly in sight, the construction of Will’s Playground at St Francis’s National School is expected to start in the summer of 2024.

“We are so very grateful to the many people who have donated to help us to build a lasting legacy in memory of Will,” the Leesons add.

The Will’s Plaground committee have some more fundraising events planned for early 2024 to help bridge that €15,000 gap, but if you’d like to donate to Will’s Playground directly, simply click here.
