For quite some time now, we’ve been meaning to stop and
say hello properly to Greystones’ most regular busker.
To be honest, we didn’t even know the guy’s name. Turns out it’s John.
The reason we had never asked before is simply because John can be a bit hot and cold, a bit quiet and a bit too loud. Someone’s-called-the-guards loud.

little too hard for some spare change.
Still, we’ve all got our cross moments to bear, and when we spotted John setting up his guitar down at the new harbour square this fine Monday afternoon, May 30th 2016, we thought we should do the man the courtesy of hearing his story.
Oh, and handing over a fiver for his printed-out short story about his birthplace, Sheemore Mound. Turns out John’s quite the poet, as he explains in our interview below. After mentioning a poetry reading he did at the Galway City Library back in 2013, we managed to source that too – it’s below the interview – and it’s quite surprising to see this long-haired hipster doing his beatnik boogie.
What a difference a few bad days can make…
That April 2013 poetry reading at Galway City Library…
