We can be heroes…

local vote for a local hero, the Greystones Person Of The Year is a way of saying thank you to someone in our community who has gone far above and beyond the call of duty for this town…

Launched in 2015, it was hardly surprising that Mrs Bridie Mooney was our inaugural winner, followed last year by the chef who put true Christmas spirit on the menu, Declan McLoughlin.

So, who’s going to be Greystones Person Of The Year this time out…?

As usual, there are plenty of worthy contenders around here, from earth angel Rachel Casey to funky philanthropist Ross McParland, from Nora Hayden at WH Five Loaves, Open Door co-founder Mary Hackett, Kathleen, Anne and all the gang at Greystones Cancer Support, the Flynn twins, the Glynn clan, Simon Fitzmaurice, Ruth Fitzmaurice, or the Greatest Little Brat Packer on the planet, Maiú Levi Lawlor, the 10-year-old Greystonian who just about stole The Late Late Toy Show.

And what about Brenda Chambers, selflessly offering this year to drive a stranger and her sister to and from their Christmas Dinner rather than having them fork out a week’s wages on a taxi…?

Or maybe you just want to say thank you to someone close to your heart and out of the limelight? Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes even the biggest of them prefer to work entirely in the shadows.
