Wicklow Fire Services Get €6m Investment

Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris TD has announced the allocation of significant funding for County Wicklow under the Government’s new €328.5 million Fire Services Capital Programme (2026–2030), the largest ever investment in fire and emergency services in the history of the State.

Under the programme, two new fire stations will be built in Wicklow, in Dunlavin and Baltinglass, representing a combined investment of €6 million.

Wicklow County Council has also been allocated two new Class B fire appliances to strengthen the county’s frontline response capability.

Speaking today, Tánaiste Simon Harris said: “I am delighted to announce this major investment for County Wicklow and for the communities in West Wicklow in particular.

“Our fire services do incredible work day in, day out and they deserve modern facilities and equipment to do their jobs safely and effectively.

“I know from speaking with firefighters and local representatives that the stations in Dunlavin and Baltinglass have needed upgrading for some time.

“These two brand new stations will make a real difference better facilities for our firefighters and a better service for the public.

“On top of that, two new fire appliances for Wicklow will ensure our fleet is kept up to date and ready to respond to the increasing demands being placed on our fire services, whether that’s severe weather events, wildland fires or the pressures that come with a growing population.

“As a Wicklow TD, I’m delighted to see this level of investment coming into the county.

“This is about protecting lives, homes and businesses, and making sure our emergency services have what they need to do their job effectively.

“I want to commend the firefighters and staff across Wicklow’s fire service for their dedication and professionalism. This investment is a recognition of the vital role they play in keeping our communities safe.”

The national programme, developed by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management, will see 39 fire stations built or refurbished, 40 new fire appliances allocated, and major investment in training, equipment and communications systems over the next five years.

A further €31.1 million is proposed for additional appliance procurement for 2028–2030, with precise allocations to be confirmed at a later date.
