Latest press release from Simon Harris TD, issued on Monday, November 4th 2019…
Minister Simon Harris TD welcomes Wicklow GAA’s launch of their smoke free policy.
Said Harris, “I am delighted to see Wicklow GAA support Tobacco Free Ireland’s objective to make a smoking free environment normal for our young people.
“Wicklow GAA’s support in promoting the Young Lungs at Play policy to protect children from second hand smoke is a vital initiative. The GAA promotes positive adult role models for our children and eliminating smoking from their grounds further reinforces this.
“Adults can also provide negative role models to our young people and the Government’s Tobacco Free Ireland strategy aims to create tobacco free local environments, in parks, playground and sporting grounds. Most people who smoke wish they had never started smoking and want to stop, for themselves and for their families. That is why we must continue to prioritise and enhance the supports and encouragement people need to quit smoking once and for all or to never take up the habit in the first place.”
“I want to commend and lend my full support to the Wicklow GAA’s Young Lungs at Play policy.”
