disgruntled butcher on Wiclow Town’s main street has had enough of Wicklow County Council’s one-way trial.

And he’s decided to do something about it.

With the 3-month trial having come to a close, Graham Dowling of Dowling’s Family Butchers has launched a petition.

And after six days, he’s reached 764 signatures in his 1,000 goal.

So, the 3-month trial period is now over and as far as I can see it’s been a fail.

Businesses are suffering, parking is a disaster, people tripping over the plastic mounts put in place and not to mention the €11,000 spent on flowers.

Last week we heard on the radio 90% of people are happy with it, the week before I read that 99% of people are happy about it, but not one person I have spoken to has said it’s good and it’s working so I’d love to see how the council are getting these statistics.

I’ve set up this petition up to try and help get the one way system lifted back to the way it was. Businesses are suffering badly at the moment and if it’s not lifted we will be seeing a lot of small businesses closing for good.

For their part, a Wicklow County Council spokesperson stated that the objectives set down for the 3-month trial “have been achieved or are on their way to being achieved“, whilst feedback was “for the most part” positive.
