A Farewell To Andrew

iven these lockdown days, it was both surreal and positively stirring to see so many people line Mill Road this afternoon.

They were there to say goodbye to Andrew Kenny, a popular player with Greystones Rugby Football Club, who passed away earlier this month following a long illness.

Devastating for those who knew and played alongside Andrew in the club, for those who knew him in the town, but, most of all, devastating for his family.

The youngest son of Jim and Susan, Andrew was just 29 years of age when he passed on Sunday.

Following a private family service this morning, the funeral cortege left St Patrick’s Church at noon, passing by The Beach House, The Cove, The Rugby Club, Redford and then on through the Southern Cross, into Dublin.

For many today, the place to say goodbye was at Andrew’s beloved Greystones Rugby Club, and the line of mourners – all keeping their social distance – seemed endless.

And it would have, hopefully, been inspiring for Andrew’s family, to see the love that is out there for this young man, cruelly snatched from us so early in the game.

Our deepest condolences to all of the Kenny family, his partner, Aoife, and to Andrew’s many friends and fellow players.
