e don’t know much about the ould horse-racing here at GG HQ, but we do know that if you’re first over that finishing line, bejaysus, you’re the winner.
And that’s exactly what happened to 18-year-old Brian Lawless last Sunday, riding Delgany Lass at the Maralin point to point in County Armagh.
It was Brian’s 8th professional race, but his first major win. And it would appear that the Delgany lad has well and truly earned it.
Horse-racing is very much a family affair, with Brian’s dad, Ger, being the trainer of Delgany Lass, and brother Sean, the owner. Younger sister Katie is up with the rooster every morning too, as the horses are taken out for their morning exercise, and mum Anne-Marie is the one that keeps it all running smoothly.
That Sunday’s win looks set to be the first of many is somewhat of a given, considering the passion that the Lawless family have for horse-racing.
So, keep an eye on this young winner over the coming years. Especially if you’re a betting man…
