A Fond Farewell To The Hill

t’s not like Rita Fitzpatrick hasn’t moved around this green and welcoming isle before, lured away many years ago from her native Belfast by local charmer Seamus.

There’s just something about the home where you’ve spent many a year with that one special person, and maybe even some annoying kids, that tends to get under your skin.

For Rita, that home was No.3 Bellevue Cottages, sitting pretty halfway up that almost-as-steep-as-Blackberry-Lane hill that she walked every day until she could walk it no more.

Now that the golf-loving Seamus has gone on to the 19th hole, Rita has come to realise that the house is just too big without him.

And so, today, the old Fitzpatrick family home has gone to market, and with it, a little chunk of Delgany history is moving on.

Not that Rita is going too far, having been lured by the bright lights of the big city that is Greystones 2026. Where the shops, the sea, the church, the offie and plenty of her old Grattan Park friends are now all that little bit closer.

And not so far away that she can’t keep up the regular gossip sessions with her Bellevue Hill buddies too.

Where else is Delgany going to find its salacious, unsubstantiated rumours…?
