roving that it’s getting tougher out there on the mean streets of Greystones, AnniePooh is closing its doors.

The little eco shop on Hillside Road made the leap from online in 2020 and proved an instant hit.

Here was someone who clearly cared deeply about how our weekly shop shouldn’t cost the earth, both metaphorically and literally. And it wasn’t long before AnniePooh was picking up award nominations, and a loyal army of fellow believers.

Many who had been believers right from AnniePooh’s online debut in 2012.

Which makes today’s announcement from Ann Teehan that she’s moving AnniePooh back online more than a little heartbreaking.

“I love this little shop,” Ann told us when we swung by today, a tear coming to her eye. “It just felt like a home away from home, and it was so wonderful being able to meet so many amazing people every single day.

“But I have to face the simple fact that having a shop open in Greystones is expensive, and the numbers just aren’t adding up. I’ll continue to run AnniePooh, of course. It’s just that I’ll be at my other home…”

With her Danish Hair Studio neighbour having shut its doors six weeks ago without even a wave (“They never said a word“), if you’re not selling coffee or slap-up grub around here, the challenge of keeping a shop afloat on Greystones is incredibly tough right now.

Especially when the oversized megamarts muscle in on those goods Amazon hasn’t quite nailed down. Yet.

So, put on your shoes and walk that extra few steps – and spend an extra few cents, if need be – to support a small, local business.
