Around Ireland In Just One Day

he idea of kayaking around the island of Ireland in one single day is the sort of out-there idea that Adrian Harkin knew fellow paddlers just couldn’t resist.

Which is why a bunch of the man’s friends all came together on Saturday to do just that.

Close to home, one bunch of hardy souls kayaked from Bulloch Harbour in Dublin to Greystones Harbour, whilst another took Greystones to Wicklow Town, then another from Wicklow to Arklow.

And thanks to some wonderful weather, the circle was completed in one day.

The much-loved Adrian runs Inish Adventures in Moville, Donegal, and he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in August 2022. Which is why Summit 2 Sea For MND came together.

“The odds against the paddle succeeding were enormous,” one of the hardy souls involved, John Dempsey, tells us. “It required near-perfect weather all around the coast of Ireland. Many people would have said it was impossible.”

To be fair, one full day of good April weather in Ireland is a very tall order.

“This initiative is a testament to Adrian’s determination to leave a lasting legacy,” continues John, “and to raise crucial funds for The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, a pivotal organisation in supporting individuals affected by MND.”

Just to add to the fun, the highest mountain or hill in each of the 32 counties was also ascended on the day. Because, you know, kayaking around the entire island of Ireland in just one day is just too small a challenge.
