A number of trespassers were also identified on and removed from the site last night.
As the situation has intensified, members of An Garda Síochána used force to defend themselves as part of an escalated response to the situation. Assistance was provided by members of An Garda Síochána Public Order Unit and approximately 50 members of An Garda 
Síochána remain at the scene this evening. The use of force included the use of Incapacitant spray and deployment of Public Order Gardaí in Public Order helmets and shields.
An Garda Síochána is not aware, at this time, of any persons injured during this incident.
Any Garda activity in relation to evolving events involves a graduated policing response taking into account relevant legislation and public safety, with enforcement as a last resort.

Gestapo heavy handed *guards attacking local unarmed people will never be forgotten.
This is blanket invasion of our country. People feigning interest in *asylum seekers are actually involved in the lucrative business of human trafficking, fleecing us Irish taxpayers. We dont have a metro system, proper clean water system, functioning health service, or many other 1st world amenities. Despite this, and over 250 Billion euro debt, we hear nonsense about all the tax surpless. What about *temporary USC? Many Irish are unable to afford enough good food. Why not just stop taking the crippling USC now that we are supposedly so wealthy? Or stop double taxation like LPT and Bin Charges (usc is supposedly doing the same thing as LPT), & we are paying VHI and Prsi because Health System is down the tubes.
This nonsense propaganda we are such a wealthy country is to justify importing 100s of 1000s of people, many unvetted men from violent 3rd world countries. Irish people are more heavily in debt, cant buy a or rent a home – thats not wealth.
Every resource & benefit is offered to these imported planter men, planning permission – no problem, not needed, their criminality waved away. Anyone arriving here violating the Dublin 3 Agreement terms IS a criminal, and on top of that is the serious criminality of rapists & murderers, multiple offenders on the run, knowing they can come here & have a free home, all supports, without ANY identity. Such irresponsible behaviour by this rogue Government compromising our national security. Long runs the fox, do McEntee, O’Gorman, Harris think this 3rd world slum, dangerous ghetto land theyre creating will be safe, will be a decent place for ANYONE?
Simultaneously the Govt with red carpet for any type of migrant, the Govt has an anti Irish attitude, forcing young Irish out. No chance of Planning Permission on your own land, no house, punitive taxes, no future here for Irish who know they can’t settle down, marry, have families. Our youth emigrate, our abortion levels are at 10,000 annually. Thats 400 classrooms of Irish babies not born, and 1000s of Irish babies born in Australia,Uk, Canada. This is not a mistake, not Govt stupidity, it is a plantation, replacement, it is Irish genocide.
Time for the journalists to start backing the maligned decent people that this rogue Govt has beaten, peppersprayed, abused. Tell the truth, call out what the RUC bootboys did to the good people of Newtown, there were lots of injuries.

Gardaí maintained a presence overnight in Newtownmountkennedy, Co.Wicklow. No further significant incidents were reported overnight. Gardaí remain on site this morning.
Six arrests were made by Gardaí during yesterday’s serious public disorder.
3 men and 1 woman have been charged for offences contrary to the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994. They will appear before the District Court later today.
One man has been charged with alleged offences contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 and the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1997, and released to appear before court at a later date.
One male juvenile has been released without charge. A referral will be prepared for the Youth Diversion Project in accordance with the Children Act 2001.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris visited the location at Newtownmountkennedy this morning. Speaking after that visit Commissioner Harris stated:
“There were very unacceptable scenes seen here in terms of a protest, which then turned to violence”.
“We’ve seen an attempt to burn a small outhouse type premises, but also then disgracefully attacks on members of An Garda Síochána who were attacked with stones and indeed vehicles have been damaged, and one vehicle was damaged with an axe.”
“As we can see with a normal patrol vehicle, both front window and the rear window have been smashed with an axe, not a hatchet, a full size axe. And also then we’ve had another vehicle lights broken and the Public Order vehicle with its tyres slashed.”
“Beyond that, there was there were attempts to injure members of An Garda Síochána. Rubble and stones were thrown from fields and members had to deploy in protective public order equipment and shields to make sure that they could protect themselves from the assaults upon them.”

Doubtless today we will see government ministers and senior gardai wheeled out to tell us that the events of last night in Newtownmountkennedy were a disgrace and should never have happened. They are right. It is a disgrace that the government bullied the people of Newtown to force a hugely unpopular immigration policy on them. They will tell us that the wearing of balaclavas is intimidating. Again, they are right – and the people of Newtown were actively intimidated by the gardai forcing balaclava clad drivers and workers at 2am onto a site where there had been a peaceful protest held for the last six weeks. In fact we will be told all manner of things and offered mock expressions of outrage to divert us all from the actual issue – that this government is using its police force to bully an immensely reckless and unpopular immigration policy onto its citizens. So please, do ask why this happened in newtownmountkennedy and do ask why they will not listen to the citizens of Ireland.
