wo groovy fundraisers for the great work done by hospices have landed on GG’s cluttered desk this morning and they’re bot a tad on the inspired side…

On Sunday, April 28th, there’s a Glen To Glen Remembrance Hike through Glendalough and Glendasan valleys, whilst in June, kids are invited to get their yellow on for their own chosen Sunflower Fun Day.

Here’s the lowdown on Our Lady’s Hospice’s annual Glen To Glen Remembrance hike taking place on April 28th…

This is the eight Glen to Glen hike in aid of Wicklow Hospice, and will set out from Laragh, taking a looped route through the beautiful Glendasan and Glendalough valleys.

Walkers are urged to dust off their boots and get behind this important fundraiser. 2023 saw a rise in demand for hospice services during which time the team at Wicklow Hospice cared for 207 people in the in-patient unit (up from 196 in 2022), while the specialised community palliative care home team looked after 390 patients in their own homes (up from 342 in 2022).
 
This year’s Glen to Glen Hike is offering two looped route options; a moderate 12km route for those looking for a challenge, and a gentler 8km option which is more family friendly. Both walks start at Laragh Carpark here, before passing sights such as Poulnass Waterfall and Glendalough Upper Lake, and then looping back to Laragh. Taking around three hours to complete, the Glen to Glen Remembrance Hike for Hospice is an opportunity for an enjoyable and scenic challenge, while making animportant contribution to local hospice services for the people of Wicklow.

With the popularity of the event, walkers are urged to register early as places are limited. Registration fee for the event is €25 per person and participants are encouraged to set a fundraising target of €100 in total. Children U16 are welcome to join at no additional cost once supervised by an adult. Those interested in participating should register online here or by calling Wicklow Hospice on 014068868. And the spiel for Together For Hospice’s Sunflower Fun Day through June goes a little something like this…

Participating schools, pre-schools, Montessori’s and creches will pick a date in June to host a Hospice Sunflower Fun Day, inviting their students to wear something yellow and asking families to make a €2 donation – or whatever they can afford – with all funds raised going directly to their local hospice or homecare service.

As a thank you for taking part in the initiative, schools, pre-schools, Montessori’s and creches will be provided with a Hospice Sunflower Fun Day pack which will include resources for the day, sunflower seeds for the children to plant, some helpful planting tips as well as fun sunflower=themed colouring pages to enjoy!
