So, it’s hardly surprising that Whale owner Ross McParland asked Nolan if any of his books might be adaptable to the stage, that hyper brain jumping immediately to his most popular title, The Curious Case Of The Irish Yeti.

But then we noticed the small yapping dog.
Which meant that we promptly had to move our little ramble chat inside. And that’s when the madness started, that furry little fella barking at everything and anything that dared move – including our own beloved mutt – quite possibly sounding a clarion call for just about every distraction known to man and tiny beast to come wreak havoc on our interview.
Add to that a wild, unstoppable, runaway train of thought from Mr Nolan – leading through some of the weird and wonderful tales that have been enchanting kids for the past 10 years – and everything turned to free jazz association in 8/3 time in double time.

In September, having been nominated by his fellow authors, Nolan won the annual Children’s Books Ireland Award, presenter Laureate na nOg Patricia Forde describing the Bray-based author as “one of the most hard-working and generous writers working in Ireland”.
