he problem with major housing developers and Wicklow planning is that
they are both masters at hide and seek.
They revel in vague, in giving you just enough information to let you know that something is happening.
But what that something actually is, well… that
would be telling.
Take the latest application to Wicklow planning from from our talamh overlords, Cairn Homes.
Lodged on February 14th – with submissions by March 20th and the decision on April 10th (objection details here) – this pre-validation reads…
proposed modifications to the previously approved development which will consist of: The omission of a 2-storey split level residential amenity building of c.325 sqm and the reconfiguration of the open space area located to the east of the apartment buildings to include the provision of active outdoor gym equipment, enhanced passive open space and all associated site works
Nice. So, doesn’t say which current Cairn Home estate in the Farrankelly and Killincarrig concrete jungle this proposed modification is for. Most likely Archer’s Wood, but then again, maybe it’s Hawkins. Or Glenheron.
The latter has been waiting for its creche for five years now, and that might just be part of ‘a 2-storey split level residential amenity building’, right?
We got in touch with Cairn Home to find out. So far, nada.

of maps, drawings, reports and letters that’s entirely empty. Huzzah!
And we daren’t get in touch with Wicklow planning given that the gang down there has got the hump with GG.
So, guess we’ll just have to wait until we see an empty 2-storey-sized space in a Cairn Homes estate around here.
Update: Less than 24 hours – and three angry Wicklow Planning late night phonecalls – after we posted, the Cairn plans and documents are up on Wicklow Planning’s website this morning.
It’s Archer’s Wood getting shafted this time…

Brown Envelopes stuffed with cash works wonders in the planning process in corrupt Paddy Land, despite the revelations in the various tribunals into corruption in the planning process country wide.
Looks like the council have oked this omission. Strange that all of the amenities are put in to get the top level planning permission and then bits Start to get omitted over time.
Don’t think this is the creche. There’s another building in the original plans for Archer’s Wood with a gym, kitchen, managment office, storage and multipurpose space that’s 325m2. Looks like they’re nixing that and just having an outdoor gym instead.
Shock horror. Developers should be made provision the amenities before anything else. That way the can come on stream as the development fills. They never had any intention of building the creche in Glenheron or this community building in whichever estate they reference. Not sure how people are to submit any objects to something so vague
Walked past Archers Wood yesterday where this planning application is displayed.
