Wave Of Car Break-Ins Overnight

hortly after Wicklow County Council moved a family of foxes into the chicken run that is Delgany village back in 2017, the crime rate in the area mysteriously rocketed.

One night of car break-ins was swiftly followed by another, as well as a wave of robberies in Farrelly’s, Firehouse and beyond.

Back then, it was 32 Burnaby cars in one night, which puts last night’s spate of vehicle break-ins across Hawkins Wood, Eden Gate and Glenheron seem positively tame. But no less shocking for those targeted.

It’s estimated that at least 7 cars were ransacked late last night, with CCTV footage of one break-in recorded at 3.30am.

The gardaí have been notified, their latest crime figures this morning coming with a warning that criminals are currently targeting both the Toyota Vitz and the Toyota Aqua, given that these Japanese cars have low security measures.

It goes without saying, make sure your car is locked, and leave nothing valuable inside. Also, make sure that your keys aren’t somewhere obvious, should someone attempt to find them whilst you sleep.

And always have gloves, a shovel and an alibi ready to roll.
