t was just another Saturday night on TV last February 2nd when the freshly-minted and undeniably-cheeky Sea Of Change Choir strolled onto the stage at The Helix in Dublin.

The show was the optimistically-titled Ireland’s Got Talent, and within three minutes and 27 seconds, this so-so show was transformed into something truly special.

For that’s how long it took for these 45 women – many of them brought together through their battles with cancer – to deliver a truly rousing version of This Is Me from the musical-of-the-moment, The Greatest Showman. Before that last high note rang out, the crowd were on their feet, many in tears, and the bould Denise Van Outen had hit the Golden Buzzer that automatically sent the ladies into the live finals.

Which just happens to be falling on Mother’s Day. 

So, get your tissues ready. And get your voting hat on too, as a win for the ladies on Ireland’s Got Talent could see this inspirational choir head out around the world, shining their bright, mischievous light into the darkest corners of people’s lives, helping others to also kick cancer’s ass.

It was after force of nature Deirdre Featherstone and her motley crew of bare-naked ladies had completed their latest fundraising – and world record-breaking – skinny dip last summer that the Sea Of Change Choir was born. The magical moment happened at the after-party that very day, when, as one, all those present ripped This Is Me a new one. 

Having raised over half-a-million euro from last year’s skinny dip, the gang have just opened a new respite centre in Crumlin for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, and are hoping to raise even more over the coming weeks. That €50,000 Ireland’s Got Talent prize money is firmly in their sights, and within their grasp.

With the big day only 10 days away, we caught up with one member of the Sea Of Change Choir, the bould Kerensa D’Arcy Barr, to find out more about the great work they’re doing, and the mighty craic they’re having…
