Cupid’s Arrows Make Their Mark

Yesterday afternoon, we were all set to run the wonderful story about how seventeen mothers came together in a Bray tattoo parlour to show just how much they loved their kids.

But we couldn’t find the mothers. Because they all went out celebrating afterwards. And were quickly, merrily, deliberately off the radar.

Luckily, ringleader Wen Wang Whelan kept it together just about enough to snap some shots, and to take down some notes.

Once she had finished tattooing the tattoo artist. And then heading straight to the nearest boozer.

As any decent tattoo artist would do.

Having originated on a Texas retreat for parents and their Down Syndrome kids, the tattoo in question is three small arrows, representing the three copies of the Chromosome 21 that all their children share. It’s a tattoo that has spread across the world, reaching even little old Greystones.

And on Saturday, seventeen proud mothers got those three little arrows tattooed. Across their hearts.
