It’s the one shot that every golfer, no matter what age, or what skill level, always hopes will happen…
And if you just happen to be in a major international championship tournament, that golden shot is even more precious.
So, you can imagine the feeling for 8-year-old Delgany Golf Club member William Walshe when, competing in the US Kids Golf European Championships recently, he managed that perfect hole-in-one on the 7th.
Apparently, his dad, Robert, has just finished cheering this morning. But only because he needed to refill his lungs.
Along with mum, Fiona, the Walshe clan are all members of the Delgany Golf Club. Which may explain why young William was hooked by the age of three.
The US Kids Golf European Championships took place at the wonderfully-named Longniddry Golf Club in East Lothian, Scotland over three days – with nine holes each day – and young William was actually disappointed with his performance overall. Having competed in the championships before, he had a Top 5 finish in his sights, but just made the Top 20 at the end of the tournament.
The hole-in-one was 77 yards, and William played a soft 9 iron. Because, you know, the kid knows what he’s doing.
To celebrate the momentous achievement, Delgany Golf Club captain Denzil Jones presented their young star player with an invitation to play alongside him in the Delgany Pro Am on July 28th.
Nice.
Clearly, William Walshe is one to watch over the coming years. Watch your back, Dunne!
