First Look At Disenchanted

he trailer for the upcoming Disney sequel Disenchanted has finally landed…

And sure, doesn’t it prove that we all live in a fairytale land around here.

For many eager fans of the 2007 original, – and those who made pilgrimages to Greystones and Enniskerry to witness the summer 2021 shoot – this is the first glimpse of what our home turf looks like with buckets of Disney fairy dust sprinkled on our houses, village squares and the most presentable extras we could muster.

A troubled shoot – early “mixed reaction” preview screenings forcing some April reshoots in New York and the UK – Disenchanted will hit Disney+ on November 24th, and if it’s even half as funny and inventive as that sweet original, fans will be happy.

And if you haven’t seen 2007’s Enchanted, do so. Now. It’s pretty much Elf in a dress.

The plot joins fairy tale princess Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) as they pack up their Manhattan belongings – including the now teenage Morgan (newbie Gabriella Boldacchino) – and head for a new life in Monroeville. Which, if the geography of the movie is to be believed, is just about 10 minutes drive beyond Newcastle.

Having Disney money in their back pocket, the happy family naturally settled into the Burnaby part of Monroeville, but dark shenanigans ensue when a wish by Giselle for a perfect fairy tale life backfires. Which seems to happen a lot in the Burnaby.

Plans for the Greystones Film Club to screen Disenchanted were put on hold after Mickey Mouse sent around the seven dwarves with their picks and shovels.
