Free Books For De Kids!

t’s that time of year when every schoolkid in the land is handed a free €1.50 book token to spend on a tome of their choice.

Which is handy, given that every bookshop in the land has a line-up of €1.50 books for them to choose from.

Taking place on Thursday, March 6th, this year’s theme is Read Your Way – although they generally recommend you go from left to right across the page. Unless, of course, you live in one of those countries where they print everything back to front.

Here’s the official lowdown..

World Book Day will be held on Thursday, 6th March 2025. €1.50/£1 book tokens and information about the day along with ideas for celebrating will be sent out to all registered schools and settings.

World Book Day Ireland is delivered by An Post in Partnership with Children’s Books Ireland. Irish-language book and resources are supported by Foras na Gaeilge and accessible copies are provided by Vision Ireland and ChildVision.

All World Book Day packs, including Euro Book Tokens, are sent in bulk to the Republic of Ireland and are despatched to schools by the Irish Department of Education. All primary and secondary schools automatically receive tokens.

Nice! Both The Village Bookshop and Halfway Up The Stairs have their displays of groovy books for kids to use their tokens on. And those tokens can be used against other books, and are valid for a month. Just for those kids who have trouble getting out of bed. Halfway are also doing a prize draw.
