From There To Here: Paraphernalia!

here can’t be many shops on the planet that offer disco balls, incense, marbles, model trains, jewellery, piggy banks, hot gossip, playing cards and, of a Friday, tarot card readings.

The clue here is in the name above the door though, Paraphernalia covering a multitude of sins. And goodies.

According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, the word means ‘All the objects needed for or connected with a particular activity‘. Which doesn’t quite fit until you couple it with the Merriam-Webster definition of Paraphernalia; ‘The separate real or personal property of a married woman that she can dispose of by will and sometimes according to common law during her life’.

Which just about covers what Susie Kenny has been getting up to on La Touche Place for the last 29 years, we reckon.

A tiny shop that thinks it’s a shopping centre, there’s something for everyone, even your oddball aunty, in Paraphernalia. In fact, there’s lots and lots of goodies here that your oddball aunty would love.

And that’s just the way Susie Kenny likes it, hand-picking and handmaking much of what’s on those overflowing and highly colourful shelves. There’s nothing here that Susie herself wouldn’t love as a surprise gift. Give or take the odd drunken stock order.

But where, when and how did this long-standing Greystones gift shop full of knick agus knack come into being, I hear you cry?
