t’s pretty much the smartest form of transport when it comes to keeping yourself and this little ole planet healthy.

Which is why a group of parents with kids in St Kevin’s National School have decided to launch Wicklow’s first ever cycle bus.

Because, hey, there’s safety in numbers, and, more importantly, every kid dreams of being part of a bike gang.

Launching on Friday, April 21st, here’s the lowdown…

The Cycle Bus will start at 8.15am from the Knockroe Roundabout for kids from Eden Gate, Glenheron and Hawkins Wood. From there, it will make its way down Farrankelly Road with stops at Charlesland and Shoreline. The St. Kev Cycle Bus will then travel up Mill Road, picking up the Burnaby kids before taking the beach route to the harbour.

The bus will cross at Spendlove’s and from there it will travel up Victoria Road arriving at St. Kevin’s for 08.45am.

The Cycle Bus is known as ‘active travel’ and it is a parent-led initiative. It is being started
for a variety of reasons.

1. To help ease the congestion in Greystones village in the mornings.
2. To help the climate change agenda by taking people out of cars.
3. To help keep our air quality in good shape.
4. Tor the health benefits that it provides, active travel wakes up the mind and body.

Greystones has some good cycle infrastructure so the St. Kev’s Cycle Bus will only travel for short periods on the public road.

However, giving children and parents the space needed when they are travelling on the road is important and we are asking the public to be patient and stay a safe distance behind the cycle bus.
