ou can see the sheer determination on Pierce Cahill’s face when he talks about his upcoming May challenge.
For the entire month, this Greystones lad is going to run 5km each and every day.
And it’s all to raise funds for his beloved Lakers, who have had the shutters at their Bray HQ down for much of the last year. Which has been tough on Pierce and his close to 380 fellow visitors to this long-running Bray centre for adults and children with learning disabilities.
“Pierce loves being at Lakers,” says his proud mum, Diane, when we met up at Pig’s Hollow today, just around the corner from their Burnaby Heights home. “And given that he’s been getting in great shape over the past few months, jogging every day, he thought it would be a good idea to put all that running towards a good cause…”
Namely, the mighty Lakers. “It was actually my big brother, Cormac, who suggested it,” says Pierce. “Maybe he just likes to see the back of me…?”
Starting on Saturday, Pierce will be out on our streets daily, proudly sporting his Lakers Challenge t-shirt. So, should you see him passing by, make sure to cheer him on.
And to make sure all that sweat and sweet support for his home away from home is worth it, throw Pierce a few shekels right over here. Now.
In the meantime, we get the lowdown on this mighty May marathon from the mam and the man himself…
