A valuable but often overlooked resource is now more accessible for residents of north Wicklow.

The Citizens Information Services in both Arklow and Bray are offering the services of a Peace Commissioner who can help you when you need to get an official document signed or a similar task. The service is free, confidential and by appointment.

What Does a Peace Commissioner Do?
Peace Commissioners are honorary appointees of the Minister for Justice, tasked with carrying out a range of important administration functions. Their services are essential for individuals who need documentation witnessed or verified but may not have easy access to solicitors or commissioners for oaths.

Key services provided include:

⦿ Make a statutory declaration or oath such as when transferring land
⦿ Sign a document such as an application for a children’s passport
⦿ Sign a certificate or order to prove your address or identity
⦿ Verify the documents for a naturalisation (citizenship) application

Free and Confidential Support
Martina Cronin, Development Manager, highlighted the importance of the service for the community. “We are pleased to offer a service to our customers where our Peace Commissioners can sign or witness signatures on documents by various authorities, like local authorities, for example. The service is free and confidential.”

Who can be a Peace Commissioner?
There are no specific educational qualifications required for the role, but appointees must be persons of good character. Both Arklow and Bray CICs each has a designated volunteer who will provide this service by appointment on a specific day.

You can avail of this service for free at your local Citizens Information Centres, in Bray or Arklow.
