The Greystones Art Group was established in 1965, the brain storm of two men, Jim Provst and Sam French, who were out playing a game of chess on a train when the idea struck them.
The group meets every Monday in Kilcoole Community Centre, but they also take it outside every Friday morning, En Plein Air giving them a taste of the life of such French Impressionists as Monet and Renoir back in the 1860s and 1870s.
Special thanks to Breda Mathews, Sinead Wyse and the committee for organising this wonderful exhibition.

Leo the lion… FRI1MAY26
ast night the Greystones Art Group launched their 60th Art Exhibition
in St Patrick’s Church Hall to a full house.
With not only the main exhibition running until Monday 4th, there was also a side exhibition, Birds In Art, each €50 8×8 original canvas raising money for Greystones Cancer Support.
Boom! What a beautiful idea.
Leading the charge last night was master of ceremonies Kathleen Kelleher, who very kindly sent us her launching speech…
Céad mílle fáilte go leir! Welcome everyone to this wonderful Greystones Art Group exhibition.
After a break due to Covid, the Greystones Art Group is celebrating 60 years of local art this year, a wonderful achievement indeed.
When I first came to Greystones in 1973, the Greystones Art Group’s Annual Exhibition was already a well-established event on the Greystones calendar. I came every year and subsequently have built up an enchanting collection original artwork. Each piece still evokes in me a special memory of an occasion or of a place.
The Greystones Art Group was established in 1965, the brain storm of two men, Jim Provst and Sam French, who were out playing a game of chess on a train when the idea struck them.
The main purpose of the group then, and still is today, was to encourage amateur artists and advance artistic knowledge and skills through on-going lectures and demonstrations.
The group meets every Monday in Kilcoole Community Centre, but they also take it outside every Friday morning, En Plein Air giving them a taste of the life of such French Impressionists as Monet and Renoir back in the 1860s and 1870s.
At the exhibition, their Plein Air notebooks will be on display. Please be sure to have a look. Artists of all levels are welcome to join the Greystones Art Group.
The practice of art is an anchor that sustains many people through the ups and downs of life, and by coming together with fellow artists each week, there is a restful space to engage with other artists and make lifelong friends. We can learn from our artists – art makes us free!
In this small corner of Co. Wicklow, in a world where art has become a commodity, these paintings by the Greystones Art Group are one of a kind and are priced to be in within everyone’s reach.
Special thanks to Breda Mathews, Sinead Wyse and the committee for organising this wonderful exhibition.
Thanks also St. Patrick’s Church for allowing the exhibition to be held in this lovely bright space.
Running until Monday, May 4th in St Patrick’s Church Hall, you can find out more about the Greystones Art Group 60th Art Exhibition here, and check out the full gallery of John McGowan pics from the night here.
