t’s a decision that was apparently made at a December 5th meeting with ministers,
TDs and concerned parents, and confirmed yesterday by the Department of Education.
To combat the lack of new secondary school places in Greystones, Minister Foley’s solution is to squeeze three more classrooms into the already full-to-capacity Greystones Community College.
Sweet.
Here’s the official announcement this morning from the GCC board of management…
The Board of Management of Greystones Community College are delighted to announce that the school is now in a position to offer an additional 48 school places for 1st year, September 2024.
The Board are confident that this move will alleviate some of the pressure that is currently being felt by families in the Greystones area due to the shortage of school places.

The Board of Management were pleased to take this decision after meeting with Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board on February 8th, where correspondences from the Department of Education provided reassurance on addressing potential challenges which had been previously raised.
