Following up our recent Greystones AFC history chat with Patsy Greene, we swung down to what is now Darcy’s Park this afternoon to meet with one of their veteran coaches, John Duncan.

Long before drones became the norm, this aerial shot of a town’s young football hopefuls in their natural habitat contains a thousand hopes and dreams.
And quite a few laughs too, of course, given that Greystones United were never a team to take themselves too seriously.
Following up our recent Greystones AFC history chat with Patsy Greene, we swung down to what is now Darcy’s Park this afternoon to meet with one of their veteran coaches, John Duncan.
John joined in 1990, just five years after the local schoolboy teams and those involved in the United Church Football League decided it was high time the town’s young folk had a team to call their own.

And over the years, that team has seen thousands of young players go through its ranks – including Man United’s Paul McShane and golf guru Paul Dunne – providing a springboard for hundreds of budding football stars into noted professional teams up and down the country, and beyond.
