Greystones Goes Full Glastonbury

Do it!

The defiant battle-cry rang out across Greystones on Wednesday morning – no asswipe vandal snapping saplings was about to break our community spirit.

The town would simply dust itself off and fix the damage, something Greystones Tidy Towns have been doing for, oh, about 437 years now.

So, even when social media was ablaze with amazement that the culprit in question was pushed forward and confessed, the call for espris de corps at Saturday’s Burnaby Park Clean-Up was met with a resounding hurrah.

And lots and lots – and lots – of likes, comments shares on social media, of course.

Following all that indignant sound and fury, the turnout of volunteers this morning to help the Tidy Towns gang was truly gobsmacking. And we mean well and truly gobsmacking.

Out of those hundreds of determined clicktavists showing their support and solidarity during the past three days, a grand total of two Greystonians turned up to help Marie, Dave and co this morning. And this dynamite duo were there to simply offer the Tidy Towns volunteers some liquid refreshments on this hot and sticky day.

Ah, it fair makes the heart swell. With anger.

In truth, just an hour can make all the difference – and the gang will be down at Burnaby Park again, on Tuesday, at 7pm. The second park-long flowerbed is being tackled, and, many hands will make light work of this monster. And pretty soon, it will as bloomin’ and beautiful as that Killincarrick Road flowerbed. 

So, pop down on Tuesday evening for 60 minutes of feelgood, if you can, and bring a shovel, or a trowel. And a friend.
