Greystones Kids Go A Little Wonka Crazy

he initial 500 golden tickets were snapped up within an hour, and last week’s unleashing of an extra 100 were gone in 60 seconds.

Yep, the town’s fastest freeloaders picked the perfect day to take their kids to Greystones great big – and gloriously free – Family Fun Day in Shoreline.

Having tempted fate with their first old-school kids party last September and somehow getting a glorious late summer’s day, It Takes A Village wisely chose an indoor this time out, as the rain pelted down outside.

Inside, it was something close to Club54 for kids, with music blasting, dancers dancing and jugglers juggling alongside a very merry clown squeezing the life into balloon animals, a giant football dart board, some eejit with icky snakes and lizards, what seemed like a hundred and one hula-hoops a-hoopin’, and, most importantly, free Lorraine’s ice cream for everyone in the audience.

Oh, and there was a foursome of fearsome and fiery, fired-up Ferraris outside too, for all the fathers who could do with feeling a little fearsome, fiery and fired-up.

There were other attractions in the midst of all the mischief and mayhem, of course, and those putting on one hell of a show today included Reuben The Entertainer, stilt walker, juggler and unicycle nutter Garry Rossiter, The Empire Group, Kids Club Ireland, Fire & Circus, the East Coast Academy of Performing Arts, Dance Greystones, Face PaintFX, Mascot Hire, Lorraine’s Ice Cream, The Whale, Kitchen 28, Sweet Boutique, Ashford Motors, CYSPC, Game Hire, Firelight Fairy, Empire Events, the Greystones Town Team and, of course, Shoreline.

In the meantime, we did get a whole bunch of pics from the one agus only John McGowan, who pretty much delivered a jigsaw of the day, with over 160 shots. Boom! Highlights below, full hi-res gallery here.

In the meantime, well done to everyone involved, especially all those behind the scenes who work tirelessly – and quietly – on regularly creating a little magic for Greystones, from summer picnics to cultural celebrations, from free workshops about being smarter than our phones to those all-important Christmas Lights.

And days like today are a reminder of what community is all about, and it gives kids a chance to, hey, interact and have fun with the real world…
