If you’ve ever wondered how much the very last field in Greystones might be worth, good news – it’s just been put on the market.
The plot is Hazelglen in Blacklion, down behind the abandoned store – a 1.33 acres site, and the price tag is a mere €850,000.
Naturally, the neighbours are none-too-pleased about having another bunch of houses in their backyard, and so, they’ve called an emergency meeting.
In the meantime, here’s the official Sherry Fitz blurb…
Valuable infill residential development opportunity (subject to PP) in prime location. The subject lands extending to 1.33 Acres/0.54HA approx. are broadly rectangular in shape having clearly defined boundaries and a sloping topography in a west to east direction toward the sea. The location is second to none, tucked away occupying a secluded setting, in a long established residential area of Greystones just 65metres approx. from the Triangle at Blacklion, c.300m from Lidl shopping centre and is within 1.6km of Greystones DART and rail station.
Access is by way of a registered right of way from the main Greystones Bray road R761. In the current Greystones Local Area Development Plan 2013-2019, the property is zoned objective RE Existing Residential.
That residents meeting is taking place on Tuesday, June 11th in 50 Rathdown Park at 8pm. Bring mixers. And a stick.Â
Interesting to zoom in on this area on http://map.geohive.ie/mapviewer.html and view the historic 25-inch map super-imposed on the current map to see this exact field unchanged. It’s a narrow field but with access to the main road. All the surrounding fields were sold and became Rathdown Park – early 1970s I think. Perhaps this one field had a different owner, or for whatever reason the owner kept it back.

Surely some of these green areas should be retained? There are no municipal allotments in Greystones so why not here?
I could give you a million reasons.
There may be reasons why this is not the best place for allotments: any suggestions for a better location?
In a location where the land is not going to cost the council an extortionate amount.
