The issue stemmed from a cancelled train out of Gorey and an electrical fault south of Bray station.
Whitmore said: “There was utter chaos facing commuters this morning from Arklow to Greystones from the early hours. The 5:50 service from Gorey was cancelled, but the cancellation was not announced until after 6:10 on social media.
“There was a bus transfer announced to replace the 05:35 from Rosslare to Connolly, and then that was changed to Go-Ahead honouring bus tickets. I have been contacted by constituents who were advised
“Wicklow Town station was not open. Commuters were met by the station master this morning outside telling people there were no trains morning.

that Go-Ahead were to honour tickets, who got on buses with drivers completely unaware that they were to honour those tickets.
Some of whom had already paid for their parking there for the day and then had to turn around. This is impacting workers and students alike this morning across Wicklow. Many of whom could have found alternatives by bus or car sharing had they been given adequate notice.

Only in Ireland would they attempt to maintain 19th century rail infrastructure and pretend it’s fit for the 21st century.
This service is entirely unacceptable in this day and age.
It simply shows there’s neither long term infrastructural planning nor any accountability within Irish rail or the dept of transport.
The only thing reliable about the train service to/from Greystones is its unreliability.! On a par with the 184.
Greystones,Delgany, and North Wicklow, has been destroyed by over development of housing estates. With the amount of new residents and cars no one should be surprised by the traffic chaos, shortage of school places, Doctors surgeries and Hospitals overwhelmed with the increased population. The Developments continue… The quality of life in North Wicklow can only go one way and that is down unfortunately.
“I’ve been commuting between Greystones and Tara Street for years now—since 2007—and it’s become impossible to ignore the ongoing issues with the train service. For as long as I can remember, trains have been consistently unreliable: trains not showing up at Greystones, services being cancelled, or the frustration of being told mid-journey that a train is terminating at Bray instead of continuing to Greystones. This isn’t a new issue. It’s been a problem for commuters on this line for years, and for those of us who’ve been using it since the 1990s, it’s clear that things haven’t improved.
The lack of consistency and the constant disruptions are simply unacceptable, and it’s high time that Irish Rail takes real action to address these problems. Commuters deserve better than this.
I’ve since bought a car and now drive into and out of the city daily.. Best decision I’ve made!
