t was closer this time out, but there was still something of an inevitability about Joe Sweeney winning Greystones Chip Champion for its second year.
The vote, of course, is as much to do with the chips as it is with the place that makes ’em, and Joe’s is a Greystones institution.
The fact that some people are going to prefer Pineto’s chips, or Jokers’, is understandable, but, the simple truth is, there’s just something about Joseph. And the way he might look at you should he ever find out that you didn’t vote for him.
Your life wouldn’t be worth living.
So, congrats to everyone down at Sweeney’s Takeaway & CafĂ© – between the children and grandchildren, there are currently 4,237 members of Joe’s clan working there – and to all the other fine, mouth-watering chip emporiums in the race this year.
As for all you lovely people who voted for Joe, your name will go into our Randomizer 3000 on Stephen’s Day, and we’ll be announcing the winner of the Full Deluxe Fish & Chips Dinner for 2 at Joe Sweeney’s shortly after- just as soon as we break the news of two free meals to the man himself.
At a time like Christmas, it’s important to remember that, although Joe may not look like he’s ever happy to see you, deep down, he loves each and everyone of us. Give or take.
Just in time for Christmas, you’ve all made an angry old Grinch very, very happy indeed…
Find out just how happy Joe was with his Chip Champion 2015 crown here.
