High Noon At Greystones Harbour

After two days of drama, it would appear the stand-off between local fishermen and the harbour master at Greystones harbour is coming to a head.

Given that the gardaí are involved, and that there are threats of legal action on both sides, it’s best we don’t speculate on the unknown details here.

In the meantime, here’s a round-up of the current situation by fisherman Ivan Toole posted on social media this evening…

Yes we are still in the harbour,
No we are still not welcome,
Yes Rockabill Seafood were threatened verbaly with legal action if they continued to collect our catch,
No harbour operators won’t put it in writing,
Yes Bernard Gallaher stole FV Orca,
No we don’t think he’ll pull that stunt again,
Yes Greystones Marine Services told us we can not tie our boats to the south pier to unload,
No we are not paying any attention to their threats if it is our only option to unload our catches,
Yes Bernard Gallaher stole our mooring ropes today.
No he didn’t get to keep them because An Garda Siochana made him give them back,
Yes FV Golden Venture blockaded the harbour as a result of the theft,
No there won’t be a blockade of the harbour tomorow,
Yes we are meeting the town councilors this week to highlight our meager requirements,
No Sisk still haven’t replied to our mediator about proper access to the north pier,
Yes there will be a blockade of the harbour next Saturday the 22nd if a common sense solution isn’t presented by then,
Yes we will have friends form other ports with us in support.
