Right now, there’s a gansey load of grants available for anyone keen to live life as snug as a bug in a really thick rug, and after Simon put us in touch with Jimmy Murray at FC Insulation, sure, turns out getting the job done is as easy as 1,2,3.

Only, with the grants, you get 2 and 3 back, paying, on average, somewhere between a third and a quarter of the actual price. So, instead of €4,000, you’ll be paying somewhere between €1,000 and €1,500.

Grants for cavity wall insulation are €700 for apartments, €800 for mid-terrace, €1,200 for semi-detached or end of terrace and €1,700 for a detached house.

When it comes to attic insulation, the grants for apartments are €800, €1,200 for mid-terrace, €1,300 for semi-detached or end of terrace and €1,500 for a detached house.

“It’s just a one-day job too,” says Jimmy. “And by insulating your walls with a bonded bead system you will improve the overall thermal properties of your home and reduce your energy bills significantly, which can make all the difference these days.”

Cavity wall insulation will also increase the B.E.R. rating of your house, and the value. Which you’ll be very happy about when you finally decide to get the hell out of this crappy town.

There are grants to suit every kind of house, and young Jimmy will do all the paperwork on your behalf. Making this a win-grin situation for old GG. Just be aware – you might need someone to put air vents into your walls. And then there’s the fella with the B.E.R. rating who checks all is rock and roll. So, that’s about another €500.
