It’s only March, and it’s already been a busy year for The Gavin Glynn Foundation.

Then again, the Gavin Glynn Foundation are ridiculously busy every year.

With rehearsals well underway for this year’s Strictly From The Movies, there’s also the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon on Monday, June 6th, the Hell & Back Apollo on June 24th (plus a September date yet to be finalised), and just in case the guys have any spare time around organising all those fundraisers, there’s also the King Of Greystones over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

All good clean family fun, of course, and all for a very good cause. The Gavin Glynn Foundation was created in memory of John and Jayne Glynn’s much-loved son, who lost his battle with cancer on October 21st, 2014. Having travelled that long and winding road that every parent fears they may have to walk with their child someday, John and Jayne were very much aware of the difficulties faced in such tough situations, as they set out to bring Gavin comfort and hope.

With the local community around them pulling together as they tried to make it easier for the Glynn family – with money for such necessities as travel and accomodation being raised through various fundraising events – John and Jayne want the foundation to be that community for others going through the same experience.

And just as with that first Strictly From The Movies and that rather unforgettable Dancing Queens night back in June 2014, John and co. want to make sure the fun features heavily in their fundraising.

In the meantime, we met up with John at the Greystones Studios – where the Strictly rehearsals are currently taking place – to talk about the formation of the foundation, the work that lays ahead, and the growing number of children being diagnosed with cancer in this country, year on year…

P.S. John wants us to clarify a mistake at 3:40 – in 2013, there were 215 children in Ireland diagnosed with cancer. The statistics for 2015 aren’t available yet.
