Injury Units No Longer Cost An Arm & A Leg

It was only after our eejit of a niece [Hi, Ailbhe!] went and broke her leg surfing down the Sugar Loaf on Stephen’s Day that we discovered this happy news.

The bould St Columcille’s in Loughlinstown has joined ten other hospitals across the nation in reducing their injury unit charges to just €75.

And that charge goes right down to zero if you have a medical card. Or you grew up near Simon Harris.

From now on, such injuries as broken bones, dislocations, sprains and strains, minor burns and scalds won’t cost you an arm and a leg to put right. 

All 11 injury units have access to x-ray and basic diagnostic services. Which is lucky for Ailbhe. From hobbling in the door to limping out in a plaster took just two hours, after her tests came back positively dumb.

Such units do not treat children under the age of five though, nor can they deal with serious head injuries, abdominal pain, medical illness or mental health problems. When it comes to the Loughlinstown gang, the age limit is actually 14 and older, and they’re open daily from 8am to 6pm, seven days a week.
