Be the holy, we knew Greystones was a town full of artists, but we never knew quite so many of the finest ones were kids.
As the entries poured in for our Splash Of Colour competition, each new wonderful nautical creation seemed to be more colourful and astounding the last.
The theme for the little Greystonians was simple – and one perfectly suited to a seaside town; create your very own fish. And give the little splasher as much colour, character and cool as your little heart desires.
Even just a glance at the entries will show you that there’s nothing quite like a kid’s imagination when it comes to colour, character and, well, cool.
It’s a cliche, but, every artist here is a winner, each having taken the time out to express themselves purely through art, and each and every one of them creating something unique, something fun, something truly beautiful.
We have to give a special shout-out to all the pupils at Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath – getting their many wonderful entries in the post was like stumbling upon an Aladdin’s Cave of incredible paintings.
In the end, when all the votes were counted up – and this is one time when it’s not so much who you know as how many – we’ve ended up with the four entries who will get their paint-covered little hands on the amazing prizes donated by, appropriately enough, goldfish.ie, Greystones grooviest – and most generous – telecommunications geeks.
So, without further ado, let’s hear it for Jack Finnegan (winner in the 11 & Under category) and Lily Bellhouse (winner in the 12-to-18 category), whilst we have two Special Mention winners too – Amber Nic Grolla Chainnigh and Kim Colgan.
Jack will be getting a Tayto Park Annual Family Pass for 4 (worth €165!), Lily will be getting a €150 One-For-All voucher, whilst Amber and Kim will each be getting a Family Cinema Pass.
Congratulations again to all the entries. Truly magnificent, and truly inspiring to see so much talent out there. You can view all the wonderful entrieshere, and catch the winners presentation righthere.
