aving been artist in residence at Jacksmill for the past year, Anna Hennings will be hosting an exhibition of her mixed media work from 2025 and 2026.

Opening on Saturday June 20th and running for two weeks, A Sense Of Place will be housed at this repurposed sawmill for two weeks.

According to the official blurb, it’s this setting that has enabled Hennings to focus on the materials and history of the Newtown site, to absorb the sense of the space, and reflect on these connections to inform the direction of her creative process with a freedom that has resulted in a diverse body of work.

Materials used include clay, wood from recycled sources from the site and previous projects, plus assemblages of discarded items. Spoons have also been hand-carved throughout the project reflecting the social atmosphere and sharing of food that bonds this community.

“There is a strong sense of the past,” says Jacksmill founder Huw O’Toole. “Sentimental and familial connections resonate in and around the buildings, but with a sense of growth and purpose to continue the legacy for future generations through biodiversity projects and a creative community.”

Sounds like someone is very high on life.

This is the Tinahely-based artist’s third residency, having previously lain her hat at Ochre Print Studio in Guildford, Surrey and at Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury, Suffolk.
