False Imprisonment Charges In Joshua Spurling Theft

ith the two teenage sisters who tricked Joshua Spurling into handing over €500 during a college trip to Dublin on January 21st having failed to turn up to court in June, one of them is now facing a new charge of false imprisonment.

It was back at the first hearing on January 22nd that the girls, aged 16 and 17, were charged with that theft and ordered to stay away from people with intellectual disabilities as part of their bail conditions.

They were later charged with stealing sums totalling €703 from another male at two city centre locations on January 20th; a store in the Ilac shopping centre and a shop on College Green.

And now, at a sitting of the Dublin Children’s Court, one of the young women has been charged with false imprisonment of two males; Mr Spurling at Aston Quay and a second complainant in the Ilac Centre, on January 20th.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has also directed that the case go forward to the Circuit Court, where there are broader sentencing powers.

One year younger, the accused’s sister is also before the courts on connected charges.

Given that they’re both under 18, the sisters cannot be named. Which is a real shame.
