pen to boys and girls, the Katie Taylor Third Level Bursary has proven to be a major boost to some young sports star’s early steps.

This annual sports scholarship of €1,500 per year was established for people who have excelled and displayed dedication and potential in their chosen sport, and who are also undertaking an undergraduate degree course in any academic field.

The Katie Taylor Bursary is a third level award to support students who excel at sport to complete their college education.

The award of €1,500 per year of college, to a maximum of four years, is open to college students now entering first year of third level. Students are not required to study a sports-related course but will need to demonstrate their involvement and commitment to sport.

Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Melanie Corrigan, acknowledged that the scholarship programme reflects Wicklow County Councils commitment to supporting high achieving young athletes to continue their education while also taking part in high performance training. 

Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, encouraged students to apply for the bursary and commended the high-quality athletes that have been past recipients of the award.

This fine gesture was established by Wicklow County Council in 2013 to mark Bray’s most famous daughter winning gold in boxing at the London Olympics 2012.
